Situated in an old cheese
dairy, tucked away in the bottom of a green valley at the foot
of the mediaeval castle ramparts.
After the Allied landings on the Normandy
coast on 6 June 1944, the battle raged inland,
and finished when the German
troops were surrounded on 21 August at Chambois Montormel. Authoritatively described by Eddy
Florentin, the renowned and well-respected Norman historian,
The Battle of Falaise Gap is the
subject to look for in the August
1944 Museum.
To relive this event time and again.
To make it easier to follow and understand the events, the
explanatory notices in French, English and German, with
photos from military archives, are arranged in sequence,
interspersed with the principal guns, and the armoured vehicles
and others used by the occupying forces. An impressive private
