With 9,000 inhabitants, Falaise
is the main population centre in the area. The town is twinned
with: Bad Neustadt (Germany), Henley (England), Alma (Canada)
and Cassino (Italy).

Falaise
is famous for its mediaeval
fortress,
where William, called "the Bastard", was born (1027).Later
he became Duke of Normandy and King of England.
Since June 2001, the recently-restored
castle has been open to visitors every day.
You can walk round the ramparts, and see the beautiful views
of the surrounding countryside.
During
the 2nd World War, the town was battered and damaged
during the Normandy Landings campaign. It was at the heart of
the "Battle of the Falaise Gap"
of August 1944.
We have planned a walk for you entitled "Falaise and its
Secrets". This will show you all the town’s attractions
